The term “web standards” rivals “branding” as the most commonly misunderstood process in the design industry at large.

In a recent web standards award competition, the majority of the entries failed to meet the requirements and were subsequently disqualified. That’s not an encouraging ratio of people who think they understand standards, to people who actually do.

Merging proper standards-based and accessible coding with user-centered design and usability can make a web presence truly powerful.

Proper design for the web can be very different from that of other mediums. In web design, usability is king. No matter how attractive or interesting a site may be, if a user cannot access what they want, it has missed its mark.
